The name “TENPYODO” derives from the Tenpyo culture of the Nara period, a golden age of the arts shaped by strong influences from Tang China and the Western Regions.

The sight of my father at work, familiar to me since childhood, became the very starting point that led me into the world of art. Despite its refined outward impression, this profession often demands considerable physical strength, as delicate artworks must be carried by hand. At art fairs, from booth installation to dismantling, both stamina and sustained concentration are essential.

After graduating from high school, I entered university, but while assisting with our family business, TENPYODO, I gradually began to notice my aging father’s declining strength. Seeing this, my desire to support him grew stronger each day, and I ultimately decided to leave university and devote myself fully to this profession.

Although my father passed away in 2018, he guided me for nearly two decades, teaching me everything from the fundamentals of the art world to the ethos of being an art dealer. His teachings remain within me as an unwavering core.

Beauty enriches the heart and brings color to everyday life. In Hakata, a historic gateway for continental culture, we aspire to be a gallery that cherishes each unique encounter—between people and objects, and between people themselves—while carrying culture and tradition forward to the next generation.

We will continue to handle each encounter with works that spark joy and resonate deeply with the senses with the utmost care, and deliver them to you with sincerity.
