11th Kyusetsu Miwa（Jyusetsu） 1910～2012
11th Kyusetsu Miwa was born in Yamaguchi prefecture as the third son of 9th Setsudo Miwa.
Real name is Sadao, alias Kyu, Kyusetsu and Jyusetsu.
In 1927, after graduating from Yamaguchi Prefectural Hagi Junior High School.
Studied pottery under the 10th Kyusetsu Miwa（Kyuwa）of the brother.
In 1941, studied under Handeishi Kawakita at the Chitoseyama kiln in Tsu city, Mie prefecture.
Greatly influenced in a short period of time.
In 1955, started to present own work under the name of “Kyu”.
For the long time of about 30 years so far, while supporting the Miwa kiln as a lower job, devoted to basic training such as figurine making.
“Kyu” is because of respect for brother, it is the name that includes the meaning of half of Kyusetsu’s mind and technique.
In 1960, inaugurated as the Regular Members of the Japan Kogei Association.
In 1961, received the Yamaguchi Prefecture Art Culture Promotion Encouragement Award.
In 1963, when the Yamaguchi National Athletic Meet was held, made the work to offer to the Emperor.
In 1967, succeeded to the 11th Kyusetsu Miwa.
In 1968, received the Chugoku Culture Award.
In 1970, received the Yamaguchi Prefecture Award.
In1972, inaugurated as the Director of the Japan Kogei Association.
Certified as the Yamaguchi Prefecture Designated Intangible Cultural Property.
In 1976, received the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
In 1979, inaugurated as the Advisor of Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum.
In 1982, received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette.
In 1983, certified as the Human National Treasure in Hagi ware.
In 1990, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.
In 2002, received the Yamaguchi Prefecture Cultural Special Achievement Award.
In 2003, transfered the headship of the family to eldest son Ryosaku and named himself “Jyusetsu”.
While inheriting the tradition of hagi ware, making full use of a novel and outstanding sense, achieved the feat that became the human national treasure with an unprecedented brother.
Establish unique kyusetsu style at the top of the japan traditional crafts association, it inherits techniques and traditions to the present.
Starting with “Kyusetsu White” created with brother, it is the work of art to say “Oni Hagi” and “Wari Koudai”, which should be called “Kyusetsu Tea Bowl”.
