Madara-Garatsu
Madara-garatsu is karatsu ware with a straw ash glaze. The cloudy glaze forms a richly varied mottled pattern, and is known as a technique often used in the kishidake kilns, the oldest of the old karatsu regions. Reduction firing produces a milky white color with a bluish tinge, while oxidation firing produces a yellowish texture. It looks beautiful when poured with sake, and the “Madakaratsu Sake Cup” exhibits dignity befitting the king of sake cups.
