Osamu Suzuki 1934-

Osamu Suzuki was born in gifu prefecture as the eldest son of Michio Suzuki.
In 1953, after graduating from Gifu Prefectural Tajimi Technical High School ceramics course, worked as father’s assistant in the laboratory of maruko touen in tajimi city, where father works as a ceramic engineer. Under the guidance of father, who was known in the industry as a glaze researcher of shino and oribe, explored the remains of old kilns from the momoyama period, such as ohira, ogaya, and kujiri.
In 1959, received the honorable mention award at the Contemporary Japanese Ceramic Art Exhibition.
In 1961, received the First Prize at the Contemporary Japanese Ceramic Art Exhibition. Received the Japan Broadcasting Corporation Chairman Award at the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition.
In 1962, received the Grand Prix at the Czech International Ceramics Exhibition. Inaugurated as the Regular Members of the Japan Kogei Association.
In 1963, received the Prefectural Governor Award at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition.
In 1967, inaugurated as the Judge of the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition. Received the Japan Kogei Association Chairman Award at the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition.
In 1968, received the Japan Ceramics Society Award. Independently built the gas kiln.
In 1972, inaugurated as the Audit Committee of the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition.
In 1973, inaugurated as the Judge Chunichi International Ceramic Art Exhibition.
In 1974, inaugurated as the Audit Committee of the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition.
In 1982, received the Japan Ceramics Society Gold Award.
In 1987, received the Art Encouragement Prize from the Minister of Education. Received the Chunichi Cultural Award, Gifu Shimbun Cultural Award, and Gifu Prefecture Arts and Culture Award.
In 1990, opened the kiln in kokeizanchou, tajimi city, gifu prefecture.
In 1992, received the Kei Fujiwara Memorial Award and the Tokai Television Culture Award.
In 1994, certified as the Human National Treasure in Shino Ware.
In 1995, received the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
In 2006, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
Based on intellectual and traditional techniques, the works created by a thorough inquiry into shino and excellent molding power are at the top of modern shino ware and have received high acclaim.
