初代 川端近左
初代川端近左は名を佐兵衛、号を近左といいます。
川端家は滋賀県の出身と伝えられており、
幕末の頃には京都で油屋（屋号：近江屋）を営んでいました。
家業の傍らで俳諧や日本画を嗜む趣味人であったとされており、
一方ならぬ興味を持っていた漆芸がいつしか家業になったと伝えられています。
「近江屋」の屋号と「佐兵衛」の名より「近左」と号しました。
初代の長男は日本画家・川端玉章であり、
漆芸は初代の弟が2代を襲名しました。
2代 川端近左
2代川端近左は1864（元治元）年の蛤御門の変で火災に遭い、
1867（慶応3）年に大阪に移住しました。

5th Kawabata Kinsa 1915 – 1999
5th Kawabata Kinsa was born in Nara Prefecture.
In 1928, he began his apprenticeship under the 4th Kawabata Kinsa.
In 1941, he was adopted into the family.
In 1963, he succeeded to the name 5th Kawabata Kinsa.
Within the ranking of lacquer artisans, he was acclaimed as the “Eastern Yokozuna,” surpassing even Nakamura Sotetsu of the Senke Jisshoku. He is remembered as a master craftsman celebrated in the phrase, “Kinsa of the East, Sotetsu of the West.”
6代 川端近左 1947（昭和22）年生
6代川端近左は5代川端近左の長男として大阪府に生まれました。
1966（昭和41）年、大阪市立工芸高等学校美術科（日本画科）を卒業しました。
1970（昭和45）年、京都市立芸術大学漆芸科を卒業しました。
2000（平成12）年、6代川端近左を襲名しました。
