Togaku Mori

Togaku Mori 1937-
Togaku Mori was born in okayama prefecture.
Real name is Saizo.
In 1959, after graduating from Okayama University, Faculty of Education Special Art Department, became a junior high school art teacher.
Since 1962, devoted himself to making pottery.
In 1966, became the Regular Members of the Japan Kogei Association. The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo purchased “Bizen Large Jar”.
In 1967, received the President’s Award at the Japan Kogei Association Chugoku Exhibition.
In 1969, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo purchased “Cylindrical Earthenware”. Received the Japan Ceramics Society Award.
In 1971, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo purchased ” Painted Earthenware”.
In 1979, opened the large kiln in mountains in aioi city, hyogo prefecture.
In 1982, opened the kiln in sabukaze ushimadocho, setouchi city, okayama.
In 1983, opened the large kiln in sabukaze ushimadocho, setouchi city, okayama.
In 1996, received the Sanyo Shimbun Award. designated as the Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Property.
In 1999, received the Okayama Nichinichi Shimbun Arts and Culture Achievement Award.
In 2002, received the Japan Ceramics Society Gold Award.
In 2005, received Agency for Cultural Affairs Commissioner Award.
In 2006, received the Medal with Purple Ribbon, Fukutake Cultural Award, Okayama Prefecture Miki Memorial Award.
In 2008, opened the new large kiln in sabukaze ushimadocho, setouchi city, okayama.
In his early years, attracted attention as a dynamic bizen ware artist, but eventually became fascinated by the strength of ancient pottery and primitive earthenware, and began to create. He is passionate about recreating old-bizen ware, and not only elucidates its traditional techniques, but also continues to create new forms of bizen ware.
