TENPYODO

Utsutsugawa Dish with Design of Reed and Boat(7 Pieces / Late 17th century-Early 18th century)

1,700,000Yen

It is the excellent work of utsutsugawa ware with a tranquil atmosphere. It was produced only for a short period of time during the edo period, and it is called "phantom old pottery" because there are few existing pottery. Round dish molded on a potter's wheel are combined with a mold while they are still half-dried to make a square dish with corners cut. Although it is ceramic, it has a thinness reminiscent of porcelain. White mud is repeatedly applied to the surface, and reed and boat are painted with iron painting and green glaze. On the reverse side, the dish is rotated on a potter's wheel, and a brush is applied from the center to create concentric stripes. Utsutsugawa ware, which retains the elegance of kyoto, has a mysterious beauty that is suitable for the name "Ninsei of Kyushu".
