Kawakujira
Kawakujira is a decorative technique that is characteristic of karatsu ware, in which the rim is coated with iron glaze and fired. It comes from the fact that the clearly floating iron glaze reminds us of the contrast of whale(kujira)skin(kawa). The seto-garatsu tea bowl is famous as a work of kawakujira style.
